Only 11 years old & still in 6th grade, Caelan Carter already had his debut singing with the Los Angeles Opera in it’s Benjamin Britten’s Billy Budd production. Chosen from the Los Angeles Children’s Choruses, Caelan was one of the 5 boy singers as Midshipmen in the Billy Budd production under the baton of Maestro James Conlon. He won audition to be one of the 4 boy soloists to sing Beethoven’s Missa solemnis with Los Angeles Philharmonic and guest conductor – San Francisco’s Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas at Disney Concert Hall in February 2015. He has performed many times under the baton of Maestro Gustavo Dudamel including the most recent LA Phil’s 2014-2015 season opening Gala with John Williams. He also sang on stage with LA Phil in a concert version of Leoncanallo’s opera Pagliacci at the Hollywood Bowl.
At age 9, Caelan had his operatic debut singing little Gherardino in Gianni Schicchi in a fully staged production at the Astoria Music Festival in Oregon, conducted by his own mother Olivia Tsui, the festival’s Resident Conductor.
Among his accomplishment at such a young age, Caelan holds 2 Trophies as the winner of piano competitions. Caelan started learning piano since he was 4, currently studying at the Colburn School of Music under the tutelage of Russian piano teacher Svetlana Transky.
A straight As student on the Gold Honor Roll, Caelan shows his vast interests of learning not only in music, but also in math, science, technology & antiques. He is even taking private lessons on becoming a magician.
